The 25th EURAS Annual Standardisation Conference will take place from 6-8 September 2021 in Aachen, Germany. The conference is organised by the European Academy for Standardisation (EURAS) and Comsys, RWTH Aachen University. The conference is hosted by Comsys, RWTH Aachen University.
Standards are often perceived as obstacles to innovation. Yet, many scientific studies suggest the opposite:
The use of standards and participation in standards development may be crucial for turning an innovation into a market success. At the same time, innovations may lead to new standards. Positive links between standards and innovation have been shown for numerous industry sectors, national economies and society at large. However, if this relationship is not managed well, the opposite effect may well be observed.
These links between standards, standardisation, and innovation have repeatedly been shown, but there are relatively few studies which provide evidence and theoretical explanations about the causal mechanisms behind these links. There is also a lack of knowledge about the factors that may influence this relationship.
Standardisation and innovation have ramifications for a range of stakeholders, including policy makers, firms, individuals and, indeed, society. Thus, if, how and why individual groups of stakeholders try to manage or even influence these processes is, or should be, a matter of broad interest (not least against the background of the emerging ‘smart’ applications).
The 2021 EURAS Conference will be held back-to-back with the 11bth International Conference on Standardisation and Innovation in Information Technology (SIIT), which will take place from 8-10 September 2021 in Aachen, Germany. Venua also is RWTH Aachen Univerity, Aachen, Germany.
